Praise and Thanksgiving!
"The halls were alive with the sound of music on Sunday, Nov. 18. “Resonance”, a small, energetic ensemble from the Rochester Oratorio Society, joined us for a bountiful thanksgiving harvest buffet dinner in our lovely fellowship hall and then gifted us with a selection of seasonal choral music. It was their “thank you” for using space in our church for rehearsals. Our own “OWLS” showed up in force on Saturday to help with the preparations for this wonderful feast. Thanks to Head Engineer, Kandee and Clean-up Supervisor, Frank for technical details.
Preceding the dinner, worship in the sanctuary held a feast for the eyes. Carol created a lovely artistic arrangement on the communion table using the bounties of autumn. The spirit of thankfulness and joy was evident in the service in which a highlight was welcoming Nancy Laport into church membership. Not only have Nancy and Chuck guided us through an uplifting interim period in the life of The Baptist Temple but Nancy is now joining with the ongoing new life in this congregation. Welcome, Nancy!
Thanks are due too for Gene and Carol for spearheading the November pie project, which actually benefits two of our local missions at the same time: Cameron, which receives the pies for their Thanksgiving dinner, and Habitat for Humanity, which receives a portion of the funds raised from buying some of the pies.
Another opportunity to eat (a favorite activity for all) was the potluck on November 15 to which Camera Rochester was invited to participate. It was interesting to meet the individuals whose artistic photographs are now being displayed throughout our hallways. They are a diverse, dedicated group and generated some lively conversations.
As November came to a close, the sanctuary was once again transformed to welcome the Advent season. It was amazing to see the della robbia wreath rising above the choir loft, red candles, green swags, the lighted Chrismon tree and the Advent wreath all carefully and lovingly put in place by many hands. And that was just the sanctuary! The mitten tree just beyond its doors was laden with colorful hats and mittens and going further to the fellowship hall, still more signs of the season were being placed. Thanks and praise to all for making all of these things happen.
